Couples Therapy
Couples therapy sessions are available to all couple and relationship structures. Before starting couples therapy, an intake specialist will talk to both people together to make sure that both are willing to participate in the therapy work.
Sessions are one hour in length and you and your partner will be matched with a therapist based on your individual needs and goals. You may choose to have in-person sessions at our office or remotely if you are a New York resident.

Couples therapy is different from individual therapy because relationship therapy sessions focus on the couple’s issues, how the couple communicates, and how the people in the relationship identify and work as a team towards their goals. Individual therapy on the other hand is self-reflective with the focus on personal growth and goals.
If you’ve been in individual therapy, you may notice a difference in how your therapist interacts with you. In couples therapy, the therapist’s job is to be a translator and reflector for what they are noticing between the couple. In individual therapy, your therapist aligns with you and is focused on helping you reflect as an individual on your coping patterns, interpersonal dynamics and goals.

Couples therapy helps couples develop healthier relationships, by aiding in the development of key skills to work through conflicts and miscommunications. Sessions typically consist of discussing the relationship, their routines or habits, issues, and each person as individuals. Along with getting to know the couples it is important during couples therapy to discern the couples goals so the right treatments and tools can be chosen for the couple.

Couples therapy may not be effective if both parties are not committed and not doing the necessary work in therapy such as being honest or utilizing the tools learned.
Also, if the therapist or treatment modality is not the right fit for the couple, then the couple may not be seeing progress or results.
